suers possessed. If she called him, he'd be duty bound to race up to the cabin and save her. She would have to do this herselffind McCall, if she could, and then get the hell out of the woods. Once they were safely away she could call in the big guns from a larger town. |

The phone she still clutched in her hand started to ring, and D.J. jumped, her pumping heart nearly choking off her breath. She jabbed the "on" button, hope filling her as she put the phone to her ear. "McCall?" |

"D.J., it's Dan. I've been calling there for over an hour. Where the hell were you? Where's Chris?" |

|

D.J. hesitated. She had to trust someone. Her father was unavailable; Danny was right here, right now. She wouldn't be so alone anymore if she enlisted Danny's help. "I'm in the cabin now. I was walking in the woods, and when I got back McCall was gone. Someone trashed this place. They took my gun." Her voice wavered on the last sentence, and she exhaled a harsh breath of irritation. She couldn't fall apart now; McCall needed her. |

"Rich." He said the name with all the distaste he'd always held for her ex-husband. Danny had always fancied himself in love with her, but she hadn't been able to return the feeling. He'd understood and been her friend. A friend she desperately needed right now. |

"D.J.?" Danny's voice broke off her thought. "Are you still there?" |

|
|
|

"Yeah, I'm here. You just proved my theory. I figured Rich was around somewhere. The mess in the cabin has his name stamped all over it." |
